Another satisfied Dr. Hammer patient with her bunion correction. She was walking in a sneaker by week four, and by week 12 when her final pic was taken, she was back to full activity and very pleased with her correction!

Meet Bonnie’s new and improved foot! She had a very large bunion deformity that Dr. Hammer fixed for her. She is now 3 months out from surgery and back to full activity!

This was a particularly satisfying correction. Her bunion didn’t bother her, it was that dang 2nd toe that stuck straight up, had a painful corn, and wouldn’t fit inside any closed-toe shoe. The surgical dilemma is that you can’t treat certain deformities in isolation. Dr. Hammer had to make room for the 2nd toe by getting the big toe out of the way with a bunion reconstruction. She can now fit her foot comfortably inside a closed-toe shoe!

This is a big toe with painful ingrown toenail edges on both sides of the nail.
The procedure involves removing both edges and destroying the margins such that it is considered a “permanent fix” for the ingrown toenail.

The photos to the right and the x-rays below depict a bunion correction. A bunion is a slowly dislocating big toe knuckle which is a slowly progressive painful joint condition. It also makes shoe fitting a challenge. The clinical photos show the before “bunion” and then the after surgical correction. The x-rays show the same. Dislocated 1st metatarsophalangeal joint before, and nicely aligned joint after surgery.

The photos to the right depict a procedure called “total nail matricectomy”. The diseased and thickened nail had been causing pain and interference with normal shoegear comfort for years. After a permanent nail removal, there is a much improved cosmetic appearance and pain-free toe.

The photos to the right show what a very aggressive and painful callus looks like before and after treatment. Calluses are often as painful as if someone “taped a rock” on the bottom of the foot. After treatment, the callus is clearly no longer protruding, but rather more of a concavity on the skin. patients get immediate relief from a simple clinic procedure we call “debridement”.
